Mark Twain Middle School Reviews

I am very happy with this school. I think the teachers are great. They motivate and challenge the kids. My daughter is in the Montessori Program. My only regret is that they might not have the 9th grade there next year. I would definitely keep her there if it became a high school next year.

My son was too smart for this school, it was terrible they didnt challenge him enough. He had to transfer to Roy H Mann to get a truly great education to prepare him for high school.

This School Is Great. Im An 8th grader and graduating this year. I LOVE all my teachers. And yes, im in IB. I 3 favorite teachers are Ms.Petralia, Mr.Cooper, and Ms.Gianelly. There are the best teachers ever! Mark Twain M.S is a very good school and my personal favorite the Sports teams are great!! I was on the Girls Softball Team for 2 years ( 7th and 8th) and it was fun. My coach, Coach Murray, was the best =]!! The teachers teach very well and if you PAY ATTENTION in class and take notes... Your kids could learn something too. Anyways I LOVE M.T.M.S and Good Luck to next years 8th Graders!!

Pretty good average school i attend this school and my favorite teacher is Ms. Ramirez the spanish teacher!!!

mark twain is the best school ever

Well yes I attend mark twain middle school. I think its all right but sum teachers are annoying. I am in that seventh grade. I'm in IB. it is real fun all my teachers are cool. gym is fun n I got a lot of friends but the school is bummy we can use sum construction work well that's all.

I attended MTMS for the sixth grade, and I do agree that the academics are terrible. I was an arts student and because of the way things were being controlled, the music program at MT wasn't good. Also, there were a lot of problems in the safety area. Plus because of certain circumstances, there were many issues between the members of the student body. But, there is one good thing that happened to me when I attended this school. I took a telecommunications course there and I thought that was one of the best academic classes that was available at the time.

I have a daughter who attends M.T.M.S, this is her first year and she is in the seventh grade. I agree with the other parents, this school is terrible! The academics are the poor! Many teachers are there to socialize not as teachers/authority figures, and some actually do care. My husband and I recently had an incident regarding a teacher, who made an inappropriate comment towards my daughter. The Principal did nothing, the teacher insists it was never said. I requested that my daughter be moved out of that class immediately. The only good quality this school has is the extracurricular activities, it's really disheartening. Overall, in my opinion this is one of the worst Middle Schools in Yonkers.

My sons attend MTMS and I really have no complaints. With the new administration in place, the school year has gone off to a good start. Being their 2nd. year, I have yet to find a teacher to I couldn't communicate with regards to any academic issues. As far as parent involvement goes, it's up to the parent. The school cannot drag you out of your home to be involved, get yourself involved. There is a great PTA that with parents that do attend meetings know what's going with the school and what events are planned by the PTA.

I have two children attending MTMS this year. 6th & 7th grd. This is our first year experiencing Yonkers public schools. I am not impressed with the academics, homework content, or class work. The teachers do not update or even access their email to communicate with the parents. They are not listing the assignments on the web-site. Nor is there a family phone list for students to call classmates. I have attended a PTA meeting, and from what I heard at that meeting all of my concerns have been an on going thing at this school. I did not choose this school for my children. This was a YBOE choice. They will not be retuning next year. I must agree with the the parent comment from 9/06. This school is horrible. I am sure most of the new Admin. won't return next yr. Mrs. K. Liverman-

My son has attended since sixth grade and is now in the eigth grade. The extra curricular activities are great. The extra help is also great but it does nothing when it comes to what matters. The administration in this school is horrible. They teach toward state tests, they change children around without involving the parents and the children are worse as each year goes by.

My son is in the Montessori Program at Mark Twain and we really think it is a good program. The teachers are very involved as well as the guidance counselors and assistant principal. There is always extra help offered if needed and their extracurricular activities are great.

Mark Twain Middle is an okay school but it should improve greatly when they introduce the IB program next year or maybe sooner.

The city of yonkers busses students from the inner city to the suburban schools and ships the suburban students to the inner city on 'magnet programs' These programs don't really offer anything they claim to be good but the school districts canteven score at an average level. The magnets are used just to impose voluntary intergration, which doesn't it just turns out to be an exodus of the middle class. This school is the Bronx Part II. Parents Beware
