P.S. 38 the Pacific School Reviews

I love this school the teachers are good. my son has learned alot in this school. I recommened this school to other parents.

We love PS 38- its a friendly, well run school.

As an everyday perdiam teacher I see many schools. I love working at this school. The teachers are supportive of their collegues, yes even the subs and the children are in an environment which strives to provide academic and personal excellence. Students are learning in an environment that is nurturing, supportive.

the principal is in a fog and the a.p. follows the principal. However, the teachers have always been stellar despite the lack of administrative support.

The school is very diverse and offers a multitude of extra curricular activities. However more focus must be given to academics. My child is in the gifted program and is rarely challenged. I am actually in the process of looking at other schools for this exact reason. If the school is going to improve academics have to be stressed just as much as other programs. In their defense the principal and assistant principal are newly appointed and have to be given a year or two to make changes and show growth.

The staff is made up of many intelligent, hard-working teachers. There exists a solid, but very small, group of parents who are very involved and are willing to do so much for the school. There is tremendous potential for success at 38, but as a school it is lacking clear and confident leadership. Lack of organization and high levels of frustration with paperwork, constant changes, and behavior issues keep the teachers from working together in as positive and productive of a way as they could.

My son has attended PS 38 from kindergarten to this year in the fourth grade. He is in the gifted program, but the school is correct in its stated commitment to providing quality education to all its students. Classes have been small, teachers have been involved and accessible, and staff and parents together have accomplished many improvements in terms of a new school yard, music program, after school program, and community grants for school improvement. The principal knows my son personally, and I feel that many other school staff treat him as they would their own children. He has made steady learning progress in reading math as well as 'extras' such as science and computer. I wish the school had more resources for field trips and after-school enrichment. Overall we are happy with our school experience.

We have been at 38 for 2 years and love the dedication of the teachers. My kids love the school and the variety of things they are exposed to: Art Connection, Drama and Music. My only wish is for more consistency with the academics. Science especially needs to be exposed during the formative grades. As they kids advance to the upper grades they are poorly prepared for standardized tests.

ps 38 is a small community school. There is a lot of school spirit and lots of activity in the building. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. I am not pleased with the academic side of the school. I was disappointed with the way they prepared my child for the city math and reading tests. My child did not receive any projects or long term reports in the time she was there. The gifted program is full of art, music and drama activities, but not heavy on the academics.

We are very happy with the small size, ethnic diversity and dedicated teachers at PS 38. Because of its smaller population size the student/teacher ratio is excellent, the school feels calm and comfortable, not chaotic and loud, and the teachers are truly dedicated to each childs' needs. When you walk into a school and immediately get a happy vibe, you know the principal there is doing something right. That's the way it is here.

This is a great small school. Under-enrolled in fact. A dynamic recently appointed principal. And a culturally diverse student body. A proactive PTA. What can I say? It also is one of the few schools with a gifted/talented program. Beats sending the kids to private school!
