Albert Leonard Middle School Reviews

This school is completely amazing! all the teachers are great and very efficiant, i have never heard any complaints from my student about this fabulous school!

I am a student there this is my 2nd year there im in the 7th grade. i didnt want to go to it at first but now i love it its so nic i dont want to leave it however some teachers are mean and give us a large assinment but you have to hand in pretty soon =[ secuirty guards are cool they talk (handle) with your students with out being mean! trust me you will love this school

Love the interaction with the teachers and fellow staff. They are very informative and looks out for each kids best interest.

Administration does not respond well to parents

Albert Leonard is a nice school. They take care of you and have alot of security to make sure people are safe and they have a nice and caring staff.

This is a very important school to me. I used to fail, now I'm getting A's

I think albert lenoard is the best middle shcool in newrochelle.

This school definitely has a bullying problem.overall above average academics and some teachers have great communication with parents

My daughter is in 8th grade there and loves this school. She has had some problems with bulling, but the school has been working on that problem. I have visited the school and liked it. The parent involvement is okay, but it could be up a little more. I just went to the spring concert and saw the concert band, and many others, do wonderful in the concert. My daughter has loved being in the band and has a lot of fun. She was also in the Learning Academy and it helped her a lot in math and english. She got her homework done while waiting for the bus. The buses could be better. My daughter hates having to stand on the bus because it is loud and crowed and She usually almost misses her stop. They either need more buses or less kids that take the bus.

The school is a large school and seems to have a lot to offer. There however is some major issues going on in regards to constant bullying in the school among students. It appears that the staff plays death ear until the situation blows up. I think the school should make an effort in teaching sensitivity classes to the students and staff. Peer pressure and bullying is real and can lead to individuals seriously being hurt. I do not believe the school has taken this subject serious thereby doing nothing to prevent incidents from esculating.Parents must do their part at home but lets face it when our children leave home to go to school they are spending a great deal of time without you. They are in the care of the school's staff and at the mercy of sometimes unpleasant situations exhibited by fellow classmates out of control.

My daughter attended Albert Leonard for three years, and is now a High School freshman. Her experience at Albert Leonard was one of great teacher involvvement, and a wonderful counselor in Mr. Greg Sloane. She was very connected to the school and a good reason for that is the staff's attitude and involvement with the students. She improved year by year and graduated in June 06. Her excitement at the prospect of High School was overshadowed a bit by her melancholy at leaving ALMS.....A WONDERFUL School FOR 6th, 7th and 8th Graders......

ALMS has been a mixed bag for us. We have two daughters: one graduated recently and the other has a year to go. Our older daughter, very bright without being nerdy, was tormented in 6th grade by academically indifferent kids who made nasty remarks about her grades, looks, clothes, etc. I know some folks hate tracking, but the anti-intellectualism of these kids really ruins the learning experience for others. (The teachers weren't too intellectual either. One taught her students about the famed Greek doctor 'Hippo-crates'--pronouncing 'hippo' like the animal and 'crates' to rhyme with 'hates.') ALMS's atmosphere is not great for girls. Sexual harassment and crude comments by boys are unrelenting, with teachers and staff mostly turning a blind eye. I think the administration should take much more active steps to minimize harassment/bullying--read Queen Bees and Wannabes for starters, have ongoing schoolwide workshops, and enforce a civilized standard of behavior.

Academics and extracurricular are good for a public school. But school is very large which is a drawback.

The school is large but divided into 'houses' which make it seem like a smaller school. Good parental involvement, good counseling department, but classes are large-even in the advanced classes.

ALMS is, I know, the best school that either one of my children will ever attend. My daughter, who is in college now, graduated from Albert Leonard five years ago, and my son is currently in the 8th grade there. I have never seen a school before or since that responds so readily to my calls, questions, and concerns. Teachers and guidance counselors get back to me within hours. The principal is fabulous, and he is always there with an open door if you need him. The nurse's office is responsive and receptive. I'd say that at least 95% of the teachers that my kids have experienced have been wonderful. They seem to be there because they love teaching, and this attitude is clearly demonstrated in the classroom. I love this place. This is a school that works with parents, not against them.

6th grade my son had great teachers. Kids either get great teachers or really bad ones.

A great school. There are a lot of great teachers. They do a great job in teaching and letting the students have fun. I love ALMS!

I was a student last year at Albert Leonard and honestly it was the best three years of my life. The staff is wonderful and the children are open and caring. I feel as if I definatly made some life long friends there.

I'm not a parent, but better yet, a student that goes to Albert Leonard. This year is my last, and I'm kind of sad to leave. I was extremely happy to leave Davis, to see what lay ahead, but now I'm not sure if I feel the same about this school. I'll always remember the great memories of my Albert Leonard days. My first day there, in fact, seems like it was just yesterday, and I wish it were so I could re-live the past three years. Parents, trust me, this school made me want to go to school every day, and I'm pretty sure your child will feel the same way. The teachers are caring, the students are friendly, and I can't express how much I love this school. If you send your child here, you won't regret it.

Quite possibly the best Middle School in New York State, considering Leadership/Faculty and test scores, vis-a-vis the diversity of student population. Outstanding, overall.
